How God Showed Up at My Daughter’s Wedding

Cara, Texas, USA
My daughter Carolyn’s wedding is a TESTIMONY. We’d spent months and months transforming a backyard for an outdoor wedding. But two weeks before the ceremony, the heavens opened up.
It was the most incredibly difficult time for me. I prayed, checked weather forecasts, and tried to make new plans. I prayed and prayed, but the rain did not stop. No tents were available in the area and it was too late to move the wedding inside. My husband, son, and new son-in-law spent three days out in the rain, building a shelter over the deck and patio for the reception. We were all miserable.
The day before the wedding, my daughter was fighting back tears, trying to have a good attitude. I was doing the same. I just prayed that God would help me trust in His plan – and that my daughter and son-in-law would still feel that their wedding was beautiful. I remember asking that our guests would not be miserable and that we all somehow would see God within our circumstances.
Exactly two hours before the ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun came out! It was a mad dash to get everything together, but it came together. And it was the most glorious ceremony! In fact, some of the last-minute arrangements turned out better than our original plans.
As I stood at the reception with my husband and looked around at all of the joyful people eating amazing food prepared by our extended family, we saw the beauty of it all. We saw a huge smile on our daughter’s face and when we looked up to the sky, we saw the most incredible moon and clouds. It was like God was saying, “I had this all along. You never had to worry.” I knew then that even if the rain hadn’t cleared, the day would have been beautiful in its own way.
The truth is, God always has a plan. Sometimes, we can’t see it. And often, His plan is not what we originally wanted. But if we pray and faithfully release our circumstances to Him, we will find Him right in the middle of our situation. God is the one who knows the end of the story – and His story is always for good.
